Club News 23rd March 2021

It has been a most unusual year. I recall fondly the evening of Friday 20th March 2020 when, following Boris Johnson’s closedown speech, the bar was heaving and an impromptu closing down party was held. None of us at that time had any idea just how long we might be away from the Club. Despite the glorious summer where the Club was open, albeit with behavioural restrictions in place, it seems to have been a very long time.

I am very glad to say, the end seems to be in sight with outdoor sports starting at the end of March and hopeful that indoor sport facilities will be available a few short weeks later. It feels good to think that all sport, and in mid-April al fresco bar related social activity, will be possible very soon.

The Government announcement of their Roadmap on 22nd February has given a level of confidence going forward and allowed a flurry of activity to commence. As a result we are working hard on a number of small projects, to get everything back in shipshape and Bristol fashion, ready for the Members’ return.

In the next few weeks we will be sending out the membership invoices with some element of reward involved for those that have been with us throughout the hiatus. It has meant a great deal to the Club that you have been there for us – and we wish to return the compliment. The time in which we have been forced to be closed has seen our income severely curtailed, and we have some financial catching up to do; but it will be our delight to see all the facilities, inside and out, being used once again.

The first date for your diaries (with more to follow) is:

Monday 29th March, 2021 at 8am, when tennis availability resumes. Please remember the following:

• Court booking remains mandatory so we can trace players in case of an outbreak at the club.

• Bring your own hand sanitizer or use the stations provided by the club.

• If you feel unwell or display any of the COVID symptoms (Coughing, fever), stay at home.

• Maintain social distancing on and off the courts.

• Refrain from using the tennis pavilion except for the toilets and use a mask if you do so.
